Philadelphia Red Paw

The Red Paw Emergency Relief Team is a nonprofit organization that works in conjunction with the American Red Cross, SEPA Chapter and other public and private disaster relief, social service, and animal welfare organizations to provide emergency transport, shelter, and veterinary care to animals involved in residential fires and other disasters.

It seeks to provide emergency services to animals displaced by fires, flooding, gas leaks, hurricane, and the like. It also aims to educate the public on best practices and guidelines regarding responsible pet care which includes socialization and companionship. In addition, it promotes community awareness on fire prevention and other emergency guideline to include companion animals.

The organization relies on the help of generous members of the community in order to help as many furry friends as they can. Apart from monetary donations which are used to fund the group’s programs and services, they also accept items such as wet or dry pet food, kitten and puppy food, cat litter, litter boxes, and litter scoops, cat Frontline, Cat nip toys, cat carriers, Kongs for dogs, Lysol wipes, printer ink, envelopes, stamps, and printer paper, gas cards and Petco/Petsmart cards.

People can also help the organization through dedicating their time and energy as volunteers. They are looking for people who can fill the following roles: emergency transport responder, street team volunteer, outreach volunteer, Red Paw Dog or Cat Mate, spay/neuter transport coordinator, consignment manager, public relations coordinator, grant writer, and Red Paw Delaware County Liaison.
